Printed and Digital Coupons

Coupons can be in paper form or digital.  Digital ones be found at the store’s website or on their app.  You select the coupon you want to use and it can be redeemed when you check out.  Paper coupons can be found in some printed advertisements or in the coupon sections of some newspapers.  You can also print coupons from coupons.com or other online sources and when you checkout, you hand the cashier the coupon that matches the product you are buying.  I suggest doing a web search before you make a purchase if you want to see if there are any coupons available before you make your purchase.  Dollar General has made it easy on their app to go to the store, scan the bar code of the product you want using your smart phone with their app and it will tell you if there is a digital coupon available and you can add it to your account.  When you go to checkout, you enter your phone number associated with your account and the coupon gets redeemed.  Other stores may have you select digital coupons from their web site and then when you go to checkout, you give them a rewards card to scan that is associated with your account.  By using coupons, you can reduce your total amount due by the amount of the coupon.  It is important to note though, you are not able to use a digital coupon and a printed coupon for the same item at the same time unless one is a manufacturer’s coupon and one is a store’s coupon.

Manufacturer coupons and Store coupons

Manufacturer coupons are coupons that are generated by the entity that makes the product and is part of a marketing plan to encourage buying their product.  They will reimburse the store for the face value of the coupon plus a processing fee.  Store coupons are coupons that the store will offer to help generate sales.  Most stores will allow you to use both a manufacturer coupon at the same time as a store coupon.  This creates even greater savings and is double the savings!

Here are some helpful guidelines to be aware of when it comes to coupons:
Some manufacturer coupons have a limit on how many coupons for the same product can be used at the same time. For example, you may have six coupons for Energizer batteries but can only use four of them in one transaction.  So, you can buy four packages of Energizer batteries and use four of the coupons.  If you buy six packages of Energizer batteries, you can use four coupons, but the extra two coupons you have cannot be used in this transaction.
It is important to read the details of a coupon to make sure you get the right product and size.
Coupons usually have an expiration date.
